May's book cover

May Carroll

"These poems chuck you a life-buoy then yank it out of your reach...

"Never mind the pompous house of poesie here come the termites...

"Some of the poems are shocking.

None of them are sensationalist, except in the best sense.

"An honest soul appears in the biggest pack of bullshit artists I've ever seen: poets."

Eric Beach

I wanted to throw your things out on the lawn, Cornford Press, Launceston, 2000.

First coming to prominence in the late 1980s as a member of the Hobart-based group, Three Well-dressed Poets and Two Serious Musicians, May Carroll has established a huge reputation as a solo performance poet, enlivening with her unusual mix of wit, sardony and zaniness everything from orthodontists' dinners to suburban buses.
